The Stamps School’s annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition is a showcase of outstanding work produced by Stamps undergraduate students, taking place at Stamps Gallery from January 30-February 21, 2026. The opening reception will take place on January 30 from 6 – 8 p.m.

A highly anticipated Stamps School tradition, the objectives of the Undergraduate Juried Exhibition are:

Encourage the creation of high-quality, innovative art and design work.
Teach students how to navigate juried exhibitions.
Promote participation in Stamps’ vibrant cultural community.

Jurors

Carlos Diaz is a 2024 Guggenheim Fellow and a Professor Emeritus and former chairman of the Photography Department (1995−2000) at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI where he taught for 37 years. Diaz received a BFA from College for Creative Studies in 1980 and an MFA from the University of Michigan in 1983.

Patricia Villalobos Echeverría (Nicaragua/USA), Professor of Art at Western Michigan University, engages a transdisciplinary practice encompassing printmaking, photography, video, installation, and participatory frameworks to interrogate migration, displacement, and transformation. Exhibited internationally, she holds a Doctor of Arts (Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design), MFA, and BFA, with residencies including MacDowell and Ox-Bow.

Jessica Levy is the Co-Founder of Hourglass Advisory, a New York-based art advisory firm specializing in curated collections for contemporary spaces. She holds an MFA from NYU and a BFA from the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, and serves on the Stamps School’s Dean’s Advisory Council. Levy’s background spans media including ceramics, fibers, and industrial design.

Undergraduate Ronan Baumhardt: The Kraken

Undergraduate Lily Betman: Breaking Free, 2024

On the inside of an altarpiece seven women are depicted in different niches on a panel in the center is my grandmother with my aunt and mother flanking her. They’re surrounded by symbols that represent there qualities and above their niche are their favorite flowers. That are surrounded by gold leaf, similarly to the halos that surround the women’s heads.

In my painting, I do not show graphic violence. Instead, I express the tragedy in a poetic way—an obscured sense of death and loss, a burning sky mixed with clear blue, and a church cross that reflects the search for hope. Even in devastation, God’s presence offers strength.

On the right side of the image is a Hua Mo sculpture. The sculpture sits on a stainless steel frame, with its main body made of dough. It incorporates elements not traditionally part of Hua Mo, such as plastic wheat stalks, toy cars, and a music box on top. From afar, the sculpture resembles a traditional Hua Mo, but closer inspection reveals its fusion with modern components. This image shows three of my friends posing with Angus. He was taken outside of the art school and placed near the grass to give him a more realistic setting. He was created to be a hyperrealistic “sculpture” or replica of a real highland cow, and has everything from the brownish orange fur to the long horns.

Undergraduate Joy Son: My 엄마 (My Mom)

A 6 in diameter block of aged cherry with white patters around the flat top of the base. There are white rings, diamonds patterns, and decorative paisley shapes. Atop the wooden base, there are 7 gears in a circle around the centre. The largest gear is in the centre, and atop that gear is a bronze head. The central gear when rotated spins the surrounding 6 gears which have bronze pointing hands atop them. The cherry wood is warm, reddish, and dark. It contrasts almost aggressively with the white detailing. The bronze is warm and shiny, with liver of sulphur patina darkening the low spots, providing definition to the gears and organic pieces. It looks like an antique toy or music box.
