In my piece In My Room I wanted to explore the nuances of what a bedroom is. It is not only a place we sleep at night but a safe space and a home we curate for ourselves. Bedrooms are as personal and unique as each and every one of us. To invoke this feeling of safety and nostalgia, I modeled this jacket after my childhood bedroom, with each aspect mirroring the room as closely as possible. I also utilized soft media such as embroidery and quilting to further invoke this feeling of comfort. With this piece being wearable, I wanted to show that you can take it with you and wear the magic and memory of childhood. A reminder that there is a little piece of home inside all of us, no matter where we are.
