Linocut Relief Print (oil based ink)

Undergraduate
This is a relief print I made for my intro to printmaking class, the assignment was to think back to something we were always told and/ or heard growing up. The linoleum block we were working with was 18 x 24, making this piece a lot bigger than my usual works. It was a little daunting, at the time I didn’t know what to make- that was until a small errand trip to the store. Growing up I had always been told to drink ginger ale if I ever felt- or was sick. Before I knew it I was buying it subconsciously around cold and flu season. While I know the drink will most likely do more harm than good, it’s become a staple of my childhood. With this piece I wanted to explore what items bring me comfort- especially when far from home as I transition into adulthood. I found it was many things, from ginger ale to a Virgen de Guadalupe blanket you can get at any pulga. They’ve become my own remedies.
