Covid nurses embracing each other with a roaring ocean landscape in the back. Their tears floating into the ocean signifying sadness and grief. Their grief during this time is shown by the color scale on the bottom left that gradually shifts from dark, on the left, to bright colors like orange and green towards the right.

Values of Grief

This painting depicts two masked nurses holding each other through the pandemic. The ocean in the background symbolizes the waves of sadness and sorrow they feel as healthcare workers. The bar at the bottom left features different colors that represent a spectrum of emotions. The colors span from dark blues representing sadness to brighter and warmer hues representing happiness. From left to right, the colors gradually get lighter, signifying that the emotions of these nurses are improving. The farther right you go, the better it gets, eventually reaching the greens of hope and growth. Covid-19 put many people into a state of confusion and sometimes even depression and loneliness. Watching friends and family die from this horrible virus takes a huge toll on our mental health. With this painting, I wanted to portray that raw human emotion of pain and agony. Grief is something we can all relate to, no matter who we are.
