Inspired by my mom and the jewelry she has gifted me, I created this pendant with an intention to pay homage to a shared symbol across many cultures: the Hamsa Hand. Throughout my life, my mom has gifted me with jewelry that reflects the practice of wearing the Hamsa Hand or an evil eye, to ward off negative energy. With this necklace, I wanted to capture the importance of protection and guidance, which my mom has taught me throughout my life.
The pendant brings together two notable symbols of protection: the snake and the hamsa. The brass surface was engraved with a curving snake, and then darkened with a patina to create a rustic look. The serpent serves as a quiet guardian, reinforcing the hamsa’s purpose as protection against evil and ill-intention. Set within the palm is a deep violet amethyst, added for its calming and healing qualities. Together, these elements create a layered symbol of protection, reflecting my mom’s wish for me to move through life with clarity, guidance and strength.
