My questions: How can book arts and craft be an interactive, sequential, experience? Can artist books facilitate or guide difficult conversations and what does that look like? Can interaction with an artist book evoke the experience of frustration and grief when the consumer has to confronting a once “great” artist/ author.
Neil Gaiman and the late Cormac McCarthy are two very accomplished male authors, but within the past year, news of their misdeeds onto others have become unveiled to me.
By studying and extracting content from the two different artists’ works; Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian and Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman: 24 hours and Imperfect Hosts. I created an artist book that expresses the internal and emotional process of becoming disillusioned with a literary idol. By making this process physical, I am also making it social and interactive, in an attempt to facilitate conversations between the viewers.
