Retro, Vintage, Modern explores the world of nail art and how it has evolved from Revlon's 1920s collection of vintage reds to the present-day ecosystem of internet nail culture, to the thoughts and nail care practices of the local Ann Arbor community. Since its main function is to educate the general public about the nature of nail culture, tutorials are also included for select styles to invite the audience to try some of the aforementioned nail art of the ages. Nails are a very small piece of the whole of a person, yet so many people spend countless hours and dollars to add colors and glamour, and personality. Vintage, Retro, Modern aims to shine a spotlight on artists for their work, highlight the importance of salon culture, and understand nail art's intersection between race, class, and gender.
