Bluetongue, aka A Letter Written in Blood to Focus on the Family, is a meditation on growing up evangelical, primarily the spiritual and psychological impact of being repeatedly reminded of your inherent deficit and your inability to bridge the gap between reality and being worthy of being beloved. The titular character, who we can refer to as bluetongue, bears the weight of lovelessness and hopelessness. Their attempts to spill their blood into the field in penance, a reference to the potters field in Matthew's Gospel, does not yield the desired result. It is surmised that only through acceptance, forgiveness, and ultimately love toward themselves and others, that they can be released from bondage to spiritual death and suicide.
