Celebrating the Class of 2025

The 2025 Stamps Commencement Celebration will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Building 18 at the North Campus Research Complex.

It is important that you know all the information needed to prepare for graduation from Stamps. Please read it thoroughly, and let us know if you have any questions by emailing stamps-commencement@umich.edu.

To help you prepare, please read the steps below and review this slide presentation from the November 15, 2024, webinar on preparing for graduation and commencement.

Steps to Graduation

  1. Commencement is not the same as degree conferral. Students are eligible to have their degrees conferred only once they have satisfied all degree requirements. In other words, confirmation of satisfaction of degree requirements takes place once grades have been posted and final audits are complete. For undergraduates, a senior audit, provided on request the term before the one you wish to graduate in, will indicate if you are on track to fulfill degree requirements. If you are an undergraduate and still need a senior audit, please schedule an appointment with your advisor as soon as possible.

  2. Both undergraduate and graduate students must apply for graduation through Wolverine Access. NAVIGATION: Student Business > Student Center > Degree Progress/Graduation > Apply to graduate” using the drop-down menu. Students who need assistance applying for graduation will want to reach out to the Registrar’s Office. Any students needing assistance applying for graduation will want to contact the University’s Office of the Registrar.

  3. If you need to update your name on your university record so that it appears correctly on your diploma, please go to this site to make changes.

The Stamps School Commencement Celebration is separate from the University of Michigan ceremony at the Big House. In 2025, the University of Michigan Commencement Ceremony will occur on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. Please review the information on the website for full details on that ceremony and what is required. No one needs to register” for commencement for the Big House Ceremony since applying to graduate takes care of that. To see your name in the U‑M commencement program if you are graduating in Winter or Summer 2025, you need to apply for graduation by early February for the May 3 ceremony.

Students are not required to participate in any ceremony. At the Stamps School, all students on track to graduate by Summer 2025 and who apply to graduate by Friday, April 11, will appear in the Stamps School Commencement Celebration Program.

Ceremony Registration & Tickets

All student guests are required to have a ticket to attend the Stamps Commencement Celebration. The event will be streamed online through the Stamps School website and on the Stamps YouTube channel. Each student is limited to four guest tickets. The reason for the limitation is that the local fire marshal sets capacity standards to ensure the health and safety of all attendees. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this legal requirement. Below are details on the ticketing process for the Stamps Commencement Celebration:

  • Guest Ticket requests will be available online to graduating students beginning March 3. All ticket requests must be received by Friday, March 28

  • Physical tickets will be available for pick-up in the Stamps Dean’s Office from Monday, April 7, through Friday, April 25. Tickets are free of charge.

  • All students participating in Commencement must pre-register online to participate by Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m.

  • All other guests, including family members and children two years of age and older, are required to present a guest ticket to attend the event.

  • The event will be live streamed on the Stamps School website on May 2, 2025. One week later, a recording of the ceremony will be available on the Stamps School YouTube channel.

Academic Attire

If you plan to participate in the Commencement Ceremony at the Big House on May 3, academic attire (cap and gown) is required. Academic attire is not required for the Stamps School ceremony, but many students choose to wear a cap and gown if they attend both events. More information on how and where to purchase academic attire can be found here, or students can also buy academic attire through Barnes and Noble campus bookstores across the U‑M campus at any point during the year.
