Curriculum Vitae
  • BFA, Sculpture/Installation, Ontario College of Art & Design University

Michelle Cieloszczyk (cello-sh-chick) is a Canadian visual artist working in sculpture, installation, and public art. Her artwork investigates unbalanced power relations and the inner workings of authority, punishment, and violence. Over the past six years, her practice has critiqued the function of law enforcement using corrosive and fallible materials such as rust-infused plaster, crumbling concrete, or soft silicone. She transforms replicas of uniforms and police paraphernalia into installations which provoke the status quo understanding of order and safety.

Michelle holds a BFA in Sculpture/Installation from OCAD University. She has been awarded the Haydn Davies Memorial Award, Best of 3D Works Award and the Most Innovative Use of Material Award at Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. She won the 2017 First Capital Realty Sculpture Competition; her public sculpture, CAN, was commissioned for 85 Hanna Avenue in Toronto. Michelle received grants from Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, and Canada Council of the Arts.

Michelle is a Committee Member of the Toronto Police Accountability Coalition. She has volunteered for The Stop Community Food Centre, No Pride in Policing Coalition’s Abolitionist Pride March, and Land Defence Alliance.
