The elderly asian love language is sliced fruit. Grandchildren like me are familiar with receiving that welcoming plate of sweet oranges right after dinner. I wanted to visualize this innocent, loving gesture being shoved or tossed, similar to the older victims of anti-asian hate crimes. While the image seems bright and cheery, it still gives me a feeling of anxiety, knowing that this tender fruit and fragile china will hit the ground and shatter. My aunties and uncles should not have to fear deadly shoves into the sidewalk, deadly beatings, and box cutters to the face. In response to these attacks, I sold this print to fundraise for Stop AAPI Hate, and raised over $1600.
