My integrative project is a video installation that displays a looping sequence of animated scenes that intend to invoke in the audience the same fundamental feelings of unease or discomfort that I associate with the memories that these scenes represent. These scenes represent memories that serve as ever-present sources of anxiety in my own life and are drawn directly from my memory of them, which in most cases I recall from a first-person perspective. The fragmented line drawings that are featured in each scene of the animation aim to further emphasize the notion that despite my mind’s reluctance to recall minute details from these events, the same core feeling of psychological stress remains potent. By abandoning traditional narrative structure, this has allowed me to more freely explore my labyrinth of memories, and by doing so, more accurately represent the effects of trauma on my memories. I also draw upon imagery of confined spaces to represent the hopeless feeling of being trapped in a seemingly inescapable stream of consciousness.
