I’ve recently reconnected with the colors of the Romanian flag, and I’ve been incorporating them into everything—sketches with paint markers, Legos, and glazes on my ceramic pieces. As a first-generation Romanian immigrant, these colors hold a special place in my heart because they make me feel at home. That’s why I decided to show my appreciation for them on a larger scale in this weaving.
The blue and dark pink I chose match the original colors of the flag, but they’re more vibrant and playful. At the same time, the pattern is a far cry from the simple three rectangles of color side by side. However, the black rope used to hang the piece adds a sense of formality, making it reminiscent of a flag.
