A hand woven textile with a checkered pattern of yellow, pink and blue. The weaving technique creates a textured appearance with alternating areas of tightly woven and loose strands, allowing light to pass through in some areas. At the top of the piece there are black ropes on either side, ending in tassels, the bottom is finished with braided fringe.

I’ve recently reconnected with the colors of the Romanian flag, and I’ve been incorporating them into everything—sketches with paint markers, Legos, and glazes on my ceramic pieces. As a first-generation Romanian immigrant, these colors hold a special place in my heart because they make me feel at home. That’s why I decided to show my appreciation for them on a larger scale in this weaving. The blue and dark pink I chose match the original colors of the flag, but they’re more vibrant and playful. At the same time, the pattern is a far cry from the simple three rectangles of color side by side. However, the black rope used to hang the piece adds a sense of formality, making it reminiscent of a flag.
