This poster series, commissioned by Michigan Medicine, advocates for the mental health of international students at the University of Michigan. Inspired by cultural desserts such as White Rabbit, dalgona, rasgulla, and mooncakes, the series seeks to resonate deeply with the emotions of international students, celebrating their diverse identities while acknowledging their unique challenges.
Using symbolic shapes and forms, the designs convey the emotional journey of being an international student—often feeling different or isolated, yet striving for connection and belonging. Each poster incorporates the phrase "first time feeling like the odd one out," encapsulating the minority experience in a foreign context.
To connect students with resources, each poster includes a QR code linking to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), paired with an intriguing statistic about mental health challenges specific to international students. This element encourages viewers to engage with the message and seek support, bridging the gap between awareness and action.
This series aims to foster understanding and empathy within the broader community while empowering international students by reflecting their stories and identities. It is a call to celebrate diversity, promote awareness, and nurture mental well-being through visual storytelling.
