It is a painting of a woman wearing a brown top against a simple patterned yellow tapestry, holding a small red mosaic lamp with both hands. She is placed off-center on the left side of the painting. The composition has a sense of calmness, with soft yellow lighting coming from the subject's right side and having cool blueish-purple hued shadows.

This piece is a self-portrait of myself that I painted for my ARTDES 205 Intro to Painting course, with this piece focusing on colors and the human figure. My intent with this work was to learn how colors can be used as shadows and to understand how to visualize a human figure properly, using myself as a reference. I focused heavily on complimentary colors to organize and guide myself through the piece, using purples and yellows to create a harmonious feeling throughout the composition. I also focused on creating a composition with more dramatic lighting to better understand the figure's relationship with light.
