Skin and body parts separated from the whole can hold a morbid quality. A majority of people also still find forms of body modification as well as sometimes scars to be off putting. To separate the body from its whole and shows all of its “imperfections” will potentially make some people a bit uncomfortable. In this project I show very specific examples of surgical scars, piercings, and tattoos. Showing how the body can be art no matter what has happened or been done to it. Three dimensional recreations of my own body that are displayed for all to see and comment on. Each piece over time has been formed, broken apart, recreated, and broken apart again. The combination of plaster and metal can communicate an additional value to the modifications by making them appear as a almost jewelry-like addition to my body. Each piece should carry a message of tearing apart oneself all while adding value to it.
