What’s In The Building is a series of watercolor paintings where we witness Miv, a cat, accompanying her human throughout the day. Unbeknownst to Miv, her owner struggles to perform daily routines as they navigate a whimsical version of a familiar world. However, they slowly become accustomed and indifferent to their surroundings. My process began by observing others through the windows of their homes, noting the mundane everyday tasks performed. My interest in this subject stems from seeing others live parallel to me while existing separately. I was inspired by the voyeuristic quality of Edward Hopper's paintings and @Noma.dic's fantastical narrative illustrations. A person’s mind is hard to read, and their homes are an opportunity to gain insight into personal moments. Witnessing these everyday activities through my paintings is a moment of escapism from my reality into another’s, seeing and being present in their world. Because Miv’s world is unlike the world we reside in, it allows for a new experience and perspective on life.
