Pictures represent a moment in time and can give the appearance of perfection. But embedded in each flawless frame hides imperfections waiting to be discovered. Like pictures are a representation of a larger story, so are our names. This is our earliest branding, our first marker of identity. Through interactions, our given names are often replaced by nicknames. This congenial shorthand provides a select group access to our true selves. My name is Alexandra, but those closest to me call me Zanj.
In my project, “From A to Z,” I explore the concept of honesty in photographs and in art, revealing how what we create differs from what we show. Collaging my drawings with real images, I aim to make you think about what is real, and what is not. My work challenges the inauthenticity prevalent in social media and branding. By attempting to uncover honest stories behind polished images, I strive to inspire true self-expression in an era dominated by the pressure of online perfection.
Join me in this journey of questioning what it means to be genuine, where every piece tells a story about authenticity. I hope it inspires you to reveal your authentic self.
