Saima Siddiqui: Massless

Massless

Saima Siddiqui

Undergraduate
Driven by a desire to convey the unimaginable aspects of perception, Saima Siddiqui experiments with diverse and unorthodox materials to find harmonious intersections of the observable world and the intangible in her project, Massless. SynedochalMassSuit and SeeingOperator, a set of two enigmatic wearable works, explore garment construction and costume design by challenging what the wearer physically and conceptually bears. By extending and reimagining her physical form, Massless grapples with the complexities of human connection through the dual lenses of science and Islamic mysticism. As both an astrophysicist and artist, my creative compulsion often stems from art's unique ability to fill every crevice and corner left behind by the objectivity of science. Art offers me the opportunity to take the experiences and intuitions that I struggle to put into words and collapse them into a physical entity. Embracing the inability to perfectly convey the complexities of my insights to others is the foundation of this project. While my audience observes each piece as I have created them, my work lives through your autonomy to perceive them uniquely and unearth your own complexities and indescribable feelings. This project was made possible through the support of the ArtsEngine and ArtsAtMichigan.
