Taste of Chaldean Memories is a handmade artist’s book set dedicated to Chaldean cuisine, a vibrant reflection of our Iraqi Catholic heritage. In a time where culinary traditions are increasingly at risk of being lost to time and assimilation, my project endeavors to celebrate and preserve the rich tapestry of our food culture. Chaldean identity is deeply intertwined with our Iraqi Catholic heritage, infusing our culinary practices with spiritual significance and familial tradition.
Each book serves as a vessel for a single recipe, adorned with patterns reminiscent of traditional Chaldean attire. The stories within each book, rooted in childhood memories and family gatherings, offer a glimpse into the connection between food, family, and identity. I aim to not only document and celebrate our food culture but to also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our cultural heritage.
