In "Through the Haze of Time," I execute a visual exploration of my personal history, showcasing various periods of my life through laser-engraved woodblock prints. Each print serves as a dedication to different chapters of my life, housing objects symbolizing past iterations of myself. Childhood is depicted with vibrant hues and remains the haziest, reflecting my tendency to romanticize and idealize this period despite my difficulty in recalling clear details from this time. Adolescence becomes more gray and objects are more distinguishable, yet some elements are still blurred and unrecognizable to represent the impact of trauma. Finally, Emerging Adulthood emerges with objects depicted clearly yet enveloped in a subtle haze. This is done to symbolize the freshness of recent experiences while suggesting that these memories too will eventually blur and change over time.
From afar, each print is distinguishable, but as the viewer steps closer, they dissolve into dots and abstract forms, symbolizing memory's transformation. This shift from clarity to abstraction mirrors the process of engaging with memories, emphasizing how proximity and time can alter our perception and understanding of the past.
