This painting features various elements in shades of blue, grey, pink, and green. At the center is a statue bust covered in blue toga-like fabric, with a round rock head with large divots and dramatic lighting. A large shadow extends from the rocky head, with a lighter, distorted echo beneath it. Two fish swim above the bust, one from the upper left and the other from the bottom right. The background shows a royal blue sky with simplified clouds and a gradient leading to the center. In the bottom left, there are blue folds resembling seaweed, while the bottom right has a mosaic with purple and lilac colors, ending in the middle. A mosaic face floats above the tiles, appearing weathered. The top right features rippling waves in shades of blue and teal, with a pink fishtail emerging. Another pink fishtail appears behind the bust's neck. In the top left, there's a dark purple tile-like pattern with floating clouds. A pink mysterious figure with a bird beak, horns, and human arms extends a wreath of flowers, reaching toward the swimming fish.

Seascape

Mary Jordan

Oil on Canvas

Immersed in the rich tapestry of the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, I found myself entranced by the oceanic motifs and intricate patterns woven into the fabric of ancient civilizations. In this painting, I seek to translate that sense of wonder and discovery onto canvas. Drawing inspiration from the diverse array of artifacts I encountered, from weathered sculptures to vibrant mosaics, I crafted a dreamscape that blurs the boundaries between the natural world and human craftsmanship.
