This image shows a long necklace with 5 opal shaped pendants that are connected by large wire jump rings. The pendants are made up of a variety of colored enamel which is powdered glass. Together the abstract colors mimic that of an opal, without having any stone present.

Absent Opal

Nickel, Enamel (blue, pink, purple, yellow), Cloisonné wire

Absent Opal is a necklace that was created by using the cloisonné enameling technique. This technique creates barriers for the enamel to flow creating a pattern in each piece. By utilizing an abstract pattern the colors used in the piece mimic ones you may find in a crazed opal. Thus the necklace lacks a physical stone but creates the visual illusion of one.
