The Internet makes access to information so ubiquitous that old notions of culture shock must be reconsidered. I am intrigued by travel because I believe that being in the state of traveling leads to special perceptions of spaces and what it's like to be inside them.
By having certain expectations of a new place, I set myself up for disappointment when the experience isn't what I imagined or hoped for. Constantly comparing my expectations to reality distracts from what's actually there, especially when I'm returning to a place I've travelled to before.
I want to commemorate places that were influential to me and re-enchant them to emulate the essence of what captivated me in the first place. By re-imagining the landscape itself, the paintings become a conversation and reflection of memory, expectation and reality.
