Sarah Wiideman: Untitled I & II

Untitled I & II

Sarah Wiideman

I seek beauty, metaphor, energy, revelations and poetic meaning in materials. All material has intrinsic character but, with time and use, the material character is enriched, altered and imbued with history, meaning, and capacity to tell stories. In my work, I search for multilayered histories, culture and human experience in clothing. I deconstruct old clothing to explore the material and construction, to uncover embedded histories, to reflect on cultural norms and captive personal stories. The intention is to create new forms and transformations - to visit or embellish the narratives or to create new 'yarns.' Dominant themes are universal and social, often the work examines social norms, roles in society, issues of gender, identities and class along with historic and spiritual implications. Ultimately, my aim is to experience grace.
