Clarity is an exploration of white privilege in present American society. It seeks to illustrate different situations referencing white privilege, often diving into stereotypes as a method to illustrate the effort it takes to avoid falling into them, almost as if it is a full-time job. Yet, though such a conscious effort can be taken to steer clear of stereotypes, they are often unavoidable. The collection does not serve to preach, but rather is a compilation of conversations between text and image, inspired by my own story. The project is composed of short stories, poems, images and transcriptions from outside sources. In combining all of these different elements, I am playing with the idea of collage: the collage of different writings and source material, and the literal collage of the images. It is both an exploration and an examination, serving as a source to invite comparison, critique and curiosity from my readers as they explore my analysis alongside me.
