(W)hole Woman

Gisela McDaniel

(W)hole Woman is a multimedia installation exploring the female body through trauma and sexual assault. This projects aims to divert attention from the moment of violence to the post-trauma experience of the victim. Inspired by personal experiences and the experience of other woman collected through interviews assemblage, and paintings illustrate women's relationship with their own bodies post-trauma that comes with healing from sexual violence.
Many of the pieces integrate “female objects”: objects that are enterable, object exclusively used by women, or objects referred to by female acronyms (her/she) such as ships, vessels, and cars. Special thanks to all the women who shared their personal stories with me to make this project possible, and for allowing their stories to be incorporated into this project.
