Chiao-Wen "Arwin" Wang: Ohana

Ohana

Chiao-Wen "Arwin" Wang

Our grandparents want to stay informed and engaged, but they are isolated by the digital divide. They prefer calling and letter writing, but their grandkids text and snap. As technologies have progressed and seamless communication has become easier than ever, many seniors have been left behind. Often, they have limited communication with their grandchildren and other family members, especially when they reside in different parts of the world.

With Ohana, our parents and grandparents can cross the digital divide and join the conversation again with an app designed specifically for them. Focusing on convenience and simplicity, I have created an iPad app for older adults to reconnect with the entire family. Throughout the process, I interviewed and conducted usability tests with the older adults in Atria Senior Living and Turner Resource Senior Center in order to more fully understand the needs of my target user and improve upon the app's interactions. I also worked with Alex Cox on making the app into an actual product that is available on the App Store.
