My series of paintings focuses on the abstraction of place and feelings of nostalgia. Our sense of place is fueled by memory, but those memories are often fragmented pieces of color, smell, light, and emotions. Nostalgia is the longing for another place or time, and through this series I have explored how my collection of memories from visiting family in Scottsdale, Arizona has formed the emotional context that creates nostalgia. I have reduced my memories of specific moments to minimalistic shapes, blocks, and pieces of color to convey the abstraction of memory over time.
