Three Steps is an interdisciplinary performance piece that combines ink wash painting and animation with live musical accompaniment by a jazz piano trio. After reflecting on my personal experiences as an interracial American woman, as well as a student of both painting and jazz, I interspersed the musical and visual landscapes to convey a visceral meditation on tradition, family, and identity.
