In my own head, thoughts bounce around from place to place, completely out of order – from sights to sounds to smells to feelings. Sometimes I have a vague sense of how all of these pieces fit together into an idea. Often times I don’t. In my experience learning Spanish as a second language, this struggle to express myself multiplied. I felt profoundly disconnected from other people when I couldn’t operate at full linguistic capacity.
Huh? looks at the relationship that English language learners have with their non-native language. What’s going on in their head when struggling to communicate and how do they feel in those moments?
