Olivia Allen-Wickler: Dendritic Bloom

Dendritic Bloom

Olivia Allen-Wickler

There is a repetition of pattern found in nature from our body's microscopic cell formation to the massive river systems that carve out paths into the Earth’s surface. Pattern functions as a visual language to help us understand the world around us. How we perceive these patterns individually, in contrast to holistically, has been a challenge within my work. I aim to find the interconnectedness of nature and adapt it as a model for creativity and sustainability. In my work Dendritic Bloom, I utilize the matrix of the grid as a metaphorical “net:” a tool through which to view the chaotic patterns in nature to inquire whether it successfully serves in organizing and understanding it or whether it affirms the limitations of human perception.
