Michelle Bien: Sacred Geometry, Universal Mathematics, Infinite Perfection

Sacred Geometry, Universal Mathematics, Infinite Perfection

Michelle Bien

The symbols in this sculptural artist book were selected from databases cataloging the world's most mathematically complex and geometrically perfect crop circles that have appeared throughout history. Similar to glyph groupings used in logographic languages, each crop circle is thought to represent a specific idea. The symbols have been arranged in the book based solely on the artist’s interpretation while historic data, such as the time and place of each symbol’s earthbound appearance, were omitted as extraneous. The result is that interpretation becomes a playful mystery of visual form: While each symbol retains its individuality, the synergy between the symbols suggests a more profound, interconnected meaning that still remains open, perhaps indefinitely, to further analysis.
