Peter Crow Gilleran: October Piece

October Piece

Peter Crow Gilleran

This is a recently completed drawing that looks to the past, my past, in order to move into the future. It's made up of about 60 pieces of paper that have been cut, drawn and painted on, making it a constructed work of art. The choices of where to place each piece of the construction were made rapidly and intuitively. Colors were placed in proximity because they looked good together. Certain forms were put with similar forms resulting in an analogous composition. Originally, this process went by so quickly that the overall experience was something akin to pure pleasure. However, reconstructing the image was just the opposite: dull, slow, tedious. The result is this somewhat packed picture where color, repeating forms and a scarred surface reveal what I'm striving for.
