By recording the changing qualities of natural, artificial, and other ambient light, "Theater, Seattle" is an attempt to transform an otherwise conventionally mundane and seemingly insignificant scene into subject matter of potentially greater visual interest. Drawing inspiration from Paul Sharits’ “Frozen Film Series”, which can be viewed as either a simultaneous, single still image or sequentially in chronological order of individual images, this piece also contains both time-based and non-time-based attributes. Additionally, if viewed as a more graphical and simplified series of shapes and colors, the image can also be read in a musical sense of a "score", with changing note lengths/durations and color/tonal variations occurring at regular intervals of time.
