After establishing a printmaking studio and a gallery and picture frame retail operation in Birmingham, Michigan in 1984, Nutt co-founded Art Exchange International, a non-profit organization dedicated to exchange of art and artists with other countries. He was a research and development specialist for a Berkshire Hathaway Company, Larson-Juhl, where he assisted in the development of the Cranbrook Collection, a distinctive line of picture frame moulding sold worldwide. Nutt has juried numerous regional and national art exhibitions. His work at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Small Business Development Center assisted artists and entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. Somewhat of a serial entrepreneur, in 2009 he started another enterprise in the woods, along the shores of The Big Lake, Lake Superior, Blue Rock Workshop, LLC. In 2015, Mark formed a team of creative individuals to offer marketing and businesses services doing business as Blue Rock Branding.
