Kelly Jean utilizes a diverse and surprising array of household objects and tools to create her work, from antique kitchen utensils to intricate handmade textiles. These provide the foundation for many of her striking and detailed patterns. Each piece is then hand carved, burnished, sanded, washed and waxed. After completing the building process, Kelly Jean hand paints each piece with oxides and fires them multiple times in the kiln to achieve her trademark rich, textural and tactile finish.
