Conceptually, this piece refers to the act of revealing, both physically and verbally. The edge of each porcelain square has been pulled back revealing the space previously occupied, some more than others.
Visually, this piece creates a tension through the use of materials. The porcelain slabs curl around giving them a soft appearance but are rigid; the slabs are textured against the smooth, painted surface; thin graphite lines define the space previously occupied by thick, soft, porcelain, and shadows move across the piece breaking up the pristine space. The subtleties of line, shadow and movement are an integral part of my work.
