Paige Wilson: Comfort Words

Comfort Words

Paige Wilson

Comfort Words is an interactive soft sculpture bringing mental health into active conversations between people I am close with and myself. The piece is made up of soft, stuffed letterforms serving as playful comfort objects intended to foster an environment where people feel comfortable being vulnerable. After giving my subjects an opportunity to engage with the letterforms privately, we had one-on-one conversations about their personal mental health experience and how they felt after spending time with the letterforms. The photographs of Comfort Words are answers to the question, “What words of comfort do you need right now?”

Comfort Words has taken form both as an interactive sculpture on campus at the University of Michigan as well as an intimate experience for select individuals.
