Inspired by Claes Oldenburg’s exhibition of "The Street" and his technique in soft sculpture, as well as, Ana Teresa Barboza’s use of nature in her fiber sculptures, I designed this soft sculpture to represent life and how we've lived during these times of isolation. I wanted to display life in a way that would not be wasted or discarded, like old food or flowers. This piece was mainly made with wet felted wool roving and moss due to its fibrous texture. By using old hair dye brushes as stabilizers in the horns of this “taxidermy", I used parts of myself to represent the preservation of life. My goal was to display our lives during quarantine and how our environments now often feel dead.
