This lampshade is created using seaweed and thread. I first started by exploring the different attributes of seaweed, how it performs when wet or dried and what methods can be used to create form and volume. My idea of the final piece is mainly driven by the seaweed's translucency. I wanted to showcase such attribute by creating something that looks one way when there is no light source, and presents something visually different when there is light right against it. The first thing that came to my mind was a lampshade. The main part of the lampshade was created by sewing together triangular and rhomboidal shaped seaweed when wet. The tassel parts were dried out twisted stripes of seaweed, and they were glued onto the main piece.
