The 442nd Regimental combat unit from WWII is the most highly decorated unit in the history of American warfare and was comprised of Americans of Japanese descent. My culture takes extreme pride in this fact and stories are passed on from generation to generation. The term "Go For Broke" means to 'go all in' or 'give it your all'. This attitude of persevering in the face of oppression is incredibly integrated into the Japanese American culture. I created this piece to capture the delicate moment of generational unity and the passing of experiences and knowledge to the new generation of heroes.
