Margaret Sheridan: The Petal Chair

The Petal Chair

Margaret Sheridan

The Petal Chair was designed to blend traditional Scandinavian frames with an open, string back and a custom designed textile seat. The designs for the chair started off rounded and organic, but after modeling and research of Scandinavian designers, Borge Mogensen and Finn Juhl, the chair was redesigned to be more slab-like and light -- better fit for flat pack design. The construction and intersecting lines on the chair serve as a very intentional focal point, countered by a lightness of strings and a vibrant textile. The Petal Chair offers a balance of materials, and an inviting space to sit.

Designed in Copenhagen, Denmark, the chair's execution and final building was completed in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
