rooms of a home are rendered in graphite

Mapping Home

Regina Egan

“Mapping Home” collapses the three-dimensional space of my childhood home into the two-dimensional picture plane of a book page. Each room is rendered in graphite on one side of a thin sheet of drafting film. On the other side is a schematic drawing of each room in white ink. The sheets are bound together so that the process of opening the book resembles a walkthrough tour of my home, as if by opening the book, you open the front door and step into my home. As the daughter of a bookseller, the motif of a book has carried through my entire life, and the construction and form of a book feel most like home.
