This is an observational painting of a nude woman wearing a covid mask. She is laying down on a lounge chair, which is covered in bright green, loose fabric. The background is a variation of gray values. I was expressive with my mark making, building up layers of paint with bold, large brush strokes. Looking closely, one can see my magenta under painting peeking through in some spots.

I painted this model during Fall 2021. During the pandemic, we attempted to carry on with our lives while facing a strange new reality of going to class in our masks. Many artists paint live models at some point in their careers, yet this observational painting is unique in that it captures a moment in time where there was a different “normal” being lived.
