Moss is a series of moss-based ecological installations and an accompanying webpage aimed at reimagining the way in which climate change based information is conveyed to the general public. The work is based on my personal experience of entering the world of environmentalism, and seeks to make the learning curve of sustainable action smoother for those coming after me. The installations, four 24”W x 24”L x 6”D poplar or cedar raised beds filled with soil and moss, use moss’ ability to be an air quality indicator in order to show how aspects of climate change can impact a local area in ways that may go unnoticed to those not watching carefully. The webpage features design-based climate efforts - such as sustainable packaging material - and ways for individuals to engage with climate efforts themselves, as well as general information on climate change. The work as a whole intends to combat public desensitization towards climate change, encourage climate activism, and assert that no small act is insignificant.
