FAFSA Information & Important Dates
To apply for federal student aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using U‑M’s federal code 002325. The FAFSA is expected to be available in December at no cost to students. You will be considered for Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant, and Federal Direct Loans as well as the Michigan Competitive Scholarship, Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver, and Work-Study.
If you wish to be considered for U‑M grants and merit scholarships that address need, as well as Stamps need-based scholarships, you should also complete the CSS Profile using U‑M’s CSS code 1839 to ensure that we receive your information. The CSS Profile is available on October 1 each year.
All Stamps students are considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of application — there’s no “extra” scholarship form to fill out. Our Undergraduate Handbook has more information about current student scholarship offerings that are available after your student completes their first year at Stamps.

October 1: FAFSA and CSS Profile are available
Get started on your financial aid: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (school code 002325) and CSS Profile (school code 1839) are available on October 1.
October 1: Application and Financial Aid Deadline for Winter semester transfer applicants
If you’re a transfer student applying to start in the Winter semester, October 1 is your Application Deadline. View full application information and instructions here. Winter transfer students should also submit their current FAFSA and CSS Profile as soon as possible — ideally, by October 1.
November
November 1: Application Deadline for Early Action and Early Decision applicants
November 1 is the application deadline for first-year students applying Early Decision or Early Action. View full application information and instructions here, and learn more about which application path might be right for you here. Applying Early Decision or Early Action allows you to be considered for the Rogel Scholarship, which meets a student’s remaining unmet need after financial aid and grants.
November 15: Financial Aid Deadline for Early Decision applicants
November 15 is the Financial Aid Deadline for Early Decision Applicants. Financial aid packages for students who submit their FAFSA (school code 002325) and U‑M CSS Profile (school code 1839) by November 15 will follow closely after decision release.
December
December 15: Suggested Financial Aid Filing Date for Early Action and Regular Decision applicants
The University of Michigan encourages all Early Action and Regular Decision first-year applicants and transfer students applying for Fall admission to file the FAFSA (school code 002325) and U‑M CSS Profile (school code 1839) by December 15. Applicants who file their financial aid application by the suggested filing date of December 15 and are admitted will receive a preliminary financial aid package sooner.

February 1: Application Deadline for Regular Decision Applicants
February 1 is the application deadline for first-year students applying Regular Decision, so make sure your Common Application and Slideroom portfolio are submitted by this date to be considered for Fall admission. View full application information and instructions here.

March 1 — Final Financial Aid Deadline
March 1 is the final Financial Aid Deadline for Regular Decision applicants to submit the FAFSA (school code 002325) and U‑M CSS Profile (school code 1839). However, U‑M recommends that applicants submit all documents as soon as possible to ensure that they are received by the March 1 deadline.
