UMMA Acquires Work by Joan Rosenberg-Dent
The University of Michigan Museum of Art recently acquired Wind Dancers, a two-piece work by A&D alumna Joan Rosenberg-Dent (BFA 1978). The work is one of a series that was inspired by the master classes Joan took with Martha Graham. According to the artist, Graham would appear in her long, draped black dress and gesture to demonstrate the movement. Joan’s work is in several permanent museum collections including the Detroit Institute of Art, the Renwick Gallery, and the Canton Art Institute as well as in many private collections. Joan taught at several universities including Pennsylvania State University and Ohio University where she served as Chair of the Department of Ceramics and Glass. Joan continues to exhibit her work and presents lectures and workshops throughout the US and abroad.
