TJ O’Keefe Explores Objects Creating Their Own Environment
Furniture and object designer TJ O’Keefe (BFA 2004) introduces his new light object, F/G.
F/G explores the concept of an object creating its own environment; a figure creating ground. Rather than being passive to particular lighting conditions in a space, F/G — using diffuse light emitted from its structure — helps define the context it lives in.
O’Keefe is a clinical assistant professor of industrial design at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His work is centered around minimalism and “achieving the greatest effect by the simplest means” because “the simplest solutions have the potential to be the most powerful.”
