Sophia Brueckner and Shannon Yeung: White Cube / Black Box at UMMA

In the U‑M Arts Ini­tia­tive Project Fair Rep­re­sen­ta­tion in Art and Data, Stamps Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor Sophia Brueck­ner and Stamps under­grad­u­ate Shan­non Yeung worked with UMMA and the Michi­gan Insti­tute for Data Sci­ence to apply face detec­tion and race clas­si­fi­ca­tion algo­rithms to UMMA’s col­lec­tion of artworks. 

White Cube / Black Box presents the team’s early find­ings and can be seen at UMMA start­ing Oct 16. The exhi­bi­tion open­ing was kicked off with a mini-sym­po­sium orga­nized by MIDAS, U‑M Dig­i­tal Stud­ies Insti­tute, and Stamps Gallery.
